தஞ்சை மண்ணிலே ஓராயிரம் ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் சோழர்கள் கட்டிய
கோவில்கள், தமிழ் நாட்டின் ஒப்பற்ற பண்பாட்டுச் சின்னங்களாக இன்றும்
இருக்கின்றன. ஆனால், இந்தப் பழைய கோவில்களில் பெரும்பாலானவை
நலிந்து சிதைந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. பழையாறையில் இருக்கும் கோவில்களைப்
பற்றி ராஃபாயில் இந்து நாளேட்டில் எழுதிய கட்டுரையின் முகவரி:



கட்டுரைக்கு முத்தாய்ப்பாய் அவர் எழுதும் கீழ்க்கண்ட வரிகள் நம் கண்ணைத்
திறக்கட்டும்:

dilapidated condition of the finest edifice of a splendid period
of Tamilian history. It is understood that the Government on
an appeal from the Rajamanikkanar Centre for Historical
Research, Trichy, has promised renovation. If architectural
structures, statutory and wall paintings disappear, much of
what might yet be learned about the epochs that produced
them might disappear as well."
