Dear Dr. Jayabarathi and interested Agathiyar netters,

Dr. Patrick Harrigan of the Institute of Asian Studies in Madras has an interest in further circulating the ms images to the pandits at his organization. They were only able to view it on screen, and at first thought the language was not Kannada. His system isn't capable of printing the images, even in .tif or .gif. I don't know why. One of his colleagues also recommended an epigraphist in Bangalore. Perhaps this is the same epigraphist that Vikram found.

Is it possible for one of our volunteers to print and send the description, scholar comments and images to the epigraphist, and also send Dr. Harrigan a print-out of the images? (he has the rest of the package). I have copied the relevant information below.

Also, an update:
Swaminathan is sending me his files so that I can place his translations next to the corresponding lines of the ms. This way we can view it in context, and perhaps definitively identify the third language used (other than Kannada and Sanskrit). I have contacted some experts in Marathi and Telugu, and Dr. Harrigan will also check this out. Vikram's contacts may also be able to decipher this. I will post all results in Agathiyar list, as Dr. Jayabarathi has given me his permission to do so.

Again, thank you - for everything.

Regards,
Jennifer

p.s. Dr. Harrigan's institution runs a UNESCO funded project to preserve palm leaf manuscripts. I contacted them early on at Dr. Kalyanasundaram's suggestion, and they are just now taking an interest in our project.
They have a most interesting web site:
