வேறு ஏதோ ஒரு நூலைப் படித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, தற்செயலாக
இதன் தொடர்பில் சில செய்திகளைப் படித்தேன்.

இந்திய இலக்கியம், கலைகளில் காளி மாதா பக்தர்கள் தங்கள் தலைகளைக்
காளிக்குக் காணிக்கையாக்குவது பல இடங்களில் சித்தரிக்கப் பட்டிருக்கிறதாம்.

the vital forces of cosmos, need regular nourishment; sacrificing
oneself to her is a way of acknowledging that one is obliged to
give life back to her because one has received life from her.

இதே நூலில், இதே அதிகாரத்தில், இன்னொரு விந்தையான குறிப்பும்

விளக்கத்தில் இவர் கூறுகிறார்:

"[this] is a stunnic representation of the truth that life, sex and
death are part of an interdependent, unified system. [] the
gruesome decapitation, the copulating couple, the cremation
ground, all arranged in a quite delicate, harmonious pattern -
jolt the viewr into an awareness of the truth that life feeds
on death, is nourished by death, necessitates death, and that the
ultimate destiny of the sex is to perpetuate more life, which in
turn will decay and die in order to feed more life."

பண்டைக்காலத்தில் உலகெங்கும் இறைவனுக்குப் பலியிடும் வழக்கம்
இருந்திருக்கிறது. நரபலியிடும் வழக்கத்தைப் பற்றிய கதைகளையும்
குறிப்புகளையும் உலகின் எல்லா சமயங்களிலும் காண்கிறோம்.
பிள்ளைக்கறி கேட்ட இறைவனின் கதையை சைவ சமயத்திலும்,
இஸ்லாத்திலும், யூத மதத்திலும் காண்கிறோம். கிறித்துவைச்
சிலுவையில் அறைவதைக்கூட உலகின் பாவங்களுக்காக இடப்பட்ட
பலி என்றும் கூறுவார்கள்.

பொதுவாக இந்து சமயத்தில் அகிம்சை வலியுறுத்தப் பட்டிருந்தாலும்,
கிராம தேவதைகளுக்கு ஆடு, மாடு, கோழி, பலியிடல் இன்றும்
நடப்பவைதான். அதே போல் கட்டட வேலைக்காரர்களிடம்
இன்னொரு நம்பிக்கை இருப்பதையும் கேட்டறிந்திருக்கிறேன்.
பெரிய பாலமோ, கட்டிடமோ கட்டுபவர்கள், ஆடோ, கோழியோ
வெட்டிப் பலியிடுவார்கள். இல்லாவிட்டால், பாலமோ,
கட்டிடமோ கட்டுபவர்களையோ, அல்லது அவர்கள் தொடர்புள்ளவர்களையோ
பலி வாங்கி விடும் என்ற நம்பிக்கை. மனிதன் இயற்கைக்கு
மாறுபட்ட எந்தச் செயலைச் செய்தாலும், இயற்கைக்கு சீற்றம்
வரும்; அதன் சீற்றத்தைத் தணிக்கப் பலியிட வேண்டும் என்ற
நம்பிக்கை இவர்களிடையே ஆழமாகப் பதிந்திருப்பதைக்
கண்டிருக்கிறேன்.
