<BR>According to a reliable source, Saandilyan was on a monthly retainer
<BR>when he wrote his novels. He had to stretch them as long as possible to assure a guaranteed
<BR>income. As Dr.JB pointed out, he is known for his fascinating
<BR>descriptions of female anatomy. It is generally difficult to write
<BR>historical novels, because the writer has a constraint to stick to
<BR>documented historical details. To make story interesting he needs
<BR>imaginary characters and they have to be done away with in a
<BR>convincing way before the story ends. I don't know if
<BR>Saandilyan was influenced by Errol Flynn's Sea Hawk,
<BR>when he wrote "Kadal Pura". The characters, the boat,
<BR>descriptions are strikingly similar. His sentences were too
<BR>long, often taking a whole paragraph. He made them look authentic by inserting
<BR>footnotes of the historical details. It was a different
<BR>style, likable and fun to read. Like the nostalgic movie songs his
<BR>books bring the memories of the time frame when they were
<BR>serialized in the Kumudam magazine !
