Dear netters,

"Although Science may solve the problem of how the universe began, it
cannot answer the question why does the universe bother to exist"
- Stephen Hawking, the noted British Cosmologist
(I saw this in a documentary on him and he uttering this when he was
receiving some honors from the Pope or some such religious
institution).
Stephen Hawking asks this question in the context of existence of God.
To me this reminds me of the incompleteness theorem of Godel.
I tend to think, rightly or wrongly, that we can have a closed and
complete theory (axioms and deductive system that generates theorems)
by admitting God as the embodiment of the unknowable and the asnwer to
any metalevel of questions (of which we are capabale of raisisng an
infinitesmal poriton) about the universe.
What do Tamil philosophers have to say in this regard?
Have they raised this question and how have they answered it?

Chandra
