Dear maNi,
I did not see the original posting. I would like to read it. I would
also like him to read my attempt on newton laws veNpaas posted today
and get his feedback.
While I fully agree with your excellent reply (I am sorry to comment
without reading the original posting fully, as vouched by my previous
para), they also serve a few additional purposes,
1. they are mnemonics to remember some difficult (or seemingly
difficult) concept in one's mother tongue"
2. for the writer, it gives a pleasure to express the beauty in science
in nice verses. To express the laws of nature (which are bound by
rules) what else could be a better medium than poetry bound by rules.
As you aptly pointed it out, it is a good intellectual excercise.
3. to counter the false notion that people who do science dissect the
butterfuly, break the atom and they cannot enjoy the beauty which is
almost always expressed in unity.
For them, all that they know is diamond glitters and beautifies the
girl, for us, diamond has a regular atomic arrangement (which shows
remarkable periodicity), when you cut them in some specific geometic
shape you can make the light that enters totally internally reflect
(which gives its shine) and afterall it is made up of carbon (what can
better serve to teach us the lessons in modesty).
The spots on the butterfly comes from a specific gene sequence, the
order and pattern of itself is amazing!
I am for one who believes that such notions of beauty are not given to
my critics.
