Dear Vengkat,
Very well said.
I feel that people unfortunately overuse and miuse that nannUl nURpA
to irrationally get rid of the classic aspects of our heritage.
I wince everytime I hear that uttered. You have rightly drawn an
analogy to beloveds in the human life.
That cUththiram was more to console oneself post mortem rather than to
motivate commission of murder.

Exactly. I tell people that kOlam, ceremonies unique to one's caste
etc., are all as precious as yAppu. And I ask poeple to commit to
undertake preservation of some such element of our heritage...they need
not become cangkam era experts or kALamEkams. Just preserve ther art of
kOlam , or how to tie the thalaippAkai unique to your caste (if a pAkai
is ever tied) etc. or even buy some classic work in Tamil... and adopt
it as a family book which your progeny are supposed to understand (and
memorize). You never know when and how easily some works can
disappear...as thousands have in our history.
My solgan is:
"Do some non-zero positive infinitesmal concrete contribution to Tamil
heritage".
Spend *something* that is > 0% of your resources to preserve our
heritage...I am not asking that you spend 80% or 100% of your
resources.
Just 5% or 10% of your time and/or money...
Educate in your children, your friends...
In a party of 2 hrs duration, spend at least 10 mins to talk something
good and useful (solid info, motivation) about our heritage. All these
can add up.

Venkat you are one of a handful of people that actually do something
solid to preserve our heritage.
