Dear Friends:

Recently I received an email from one Dr. Selvakumar of Washington, DC
inviting me to participat in a Tamil Conference (labelled FIRST
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE) to be held in Southern Maryland, at the
Holiday Inn, Three Diamond Hotel from May 26 to 28 , 2000 AD.

Apparently there is a "World Council of Tamil" that is organizing
this conference, which also started an INTERNATIONAL TAMIL
UNIVERSITY in Washington DC this Aug.99. For details please
visit their website:
http://www.tamiluniversitydc.com/
According to this website, this ITU has all the features of a
Virtual Univ and claim to offer courses already (sept 99).

I quote below excerpts from their Website. I thought of bringing
this to the attention of this forum, since there have been discussions
recently on Teaching Tamil to Overseas children, particularly for
those in the US. Ram Ravindran and Manivannan recently raised
procedures for accreditation of courses in Tamil. Is this ITU
of Washington a purely private one and what procedures and controls
exist for anyone to start such an Institution? I am curious.

Standard Disclaimers apply here: Till date I haven't heard of this
Tamil University initiative. I have nothing to do whatsoever with
this Univ. and anyone dealing with them is at their own choice.
