APPEAL FROM INDIA
The Following is an appeal from CRY India.

Dear Friend,

SOME STATISTICS :

111 million children are child labourers

1 out of 6 girls will not live to see their 12th birthday

3 million girl deaths are due to female infanticide

10,000 babies die everyday from easily preventable diseases

Most of us are struck by the injustice of this situation and know that
something needs to be done. But feel helpless in the face of such
pessimistic statistics. However, this did not deter seven friends who
believed that such an unjust situation can and must change.

ABOUT CRY :

Rs. 50, a dinning table and a dream ... was the legacy with which CRY -
Child Relief and You, was built. Seven Indian led by Rippan Kapur ( 1954
to 94), an Air India purser, came together in Mumbai in 1979. Each
brought Rs. 7, Rippan’s mother contributed her dining table and a
freedom movement was born for children.

The CRY family grew from 7 to 14, then 1400 and then to over 75000
individuals consisting of people like you. People with just a simple
belief. A belief that said “change is possible... because I will make it
possible”.

A LINK :

CRY is a link between a child in need, whereever he/she is in India ...
And you, wherever you are in the world. CRY uses the goodwill, time
skills and money of thousands of individuals and child development
initiatives run by committed development workers. CRY thus channelising
people’s resources to organisations and individuals who need it to work
with children.

CRY is an example of the tremendous power of collective action. Starting
with a mere Rs. 50, CRY has over 19 years, collected and disbursed Rs.
280 million touching the lives of 812,000 children all over India CRY
has succeeded because it is Child Relief and YOU. A people’s movement.
>>From all walks of life and every corner of the world.

MAKES A DIFFERENCE :

Today, Child labourers are free and in school, street children are
rehabilitated with education and love and girl children are first
generation learners, with school as their future, not child marriage.
But there is still so much to be done. And so much more is possible.

of restoring to children their right to a future - to read, write, play
and have a healthy and happy childhood.
