அன்பு நண்பர்களே,

Much has been said about the impact of the Year 2000(Y2K) problem on
business. However there is also a need for individuals to know what they
can do to prepare for the next millenium. To help you understand how the
Y2K problem affects homes, the following is a short summary of what an
individual can do to be Y2K ready.
Disruptions in the supply of power and water should not be a worry as the
organisations responsible have assigned priority to the Y2K problem and
have implemented comprehensive Y2K action programmes. According to the
industry, few household appliances are affected since most do not use
date/time functions to control their operations. The following is a list of
common appliances and their Y2K compliance status:

ஆயிரமாம் ஆண்டுப் பிரச்னை(Y2K) தொழில்களில் ஏற்படுத்தக்கூடிய தாக்கத்தைப் பற்றி நிறையவே எழுதவும்
பேசவும் பட்டுவிட்டது. இருபபினும் அடுத்தஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்குத் தங்களை ஆயத்தப்படுத்திக்கொள்ள தனிநபர்கள்
என்ன செய்யவேண்டும் என்ற தேவையும் உள்ளது. y2k பிரச்னை இல்லங்களை எப்படிப் பாதிக்கும் என்பதை நீங்கள்
புரிந்துகொள்ள, தனிநபர்கள் y2k பிரச்னையைச் சமாளிக்க என்ன செய்யலாம் என்பது பற்றிய சுறுக்கத்தை
கீழே காணலாம்.மின்சாரம், தண்ணீர்விநியோகத் தடைபற்றிய கவலைதேவையில்லை. ஏன் எனில்
அவற்றின் விநியோகத்திற்குப் பொறுப்பான அமைப்புகள் y2k பிரச்னைக்கு முன்னுரிமை கொடுத்து விரிவான
y2k செயல் திட்டங்களை செயல்படுத்தியுள்ளன. பெரும்பாலான இயந்திரங்கள்-சாதனங்கள் இயங்குவதற்கு அவை
தேதி/நேர செயல்பாட்டுமுறைகளைப்பயன்படுத்துவதில்லை என்பதால் சிலகுடும்பங்கள் மட்டுமே இப்பிரச்னையால்
பாதிக்கப்படும் என்று இத்தொழில்துறைசார்ந்தோர் கூறுகின்றனர். பொதுவாகவீடுகளில் பயன்படுத்தப்படும்
சாதனங்கள் பற்றியும் அவை y2k பிரச்னைக்குத் தயாராக உள்ளனவா என்பது பற்றியுமான பட்டியல் இதோ:



Cameras: Older cameras that record dates may be affected as their calendars
run until 1999 and then return to their start date. Only the date on the
photograph will be affected.
Camcorders: Only the display date may be affected.
Fax Machines: Sending out pre-programmed faxes may be disrupted and the
date printed on faxed documents may be incorrect.
Microwave ovens: No problem.
Mobile Phones: Some models may be affected.
Refrigerators: No problem.
Videocassette Recorders: Programmed recordings and/or automatic on/off
functions may be affected. However, basic recording, playback, and on/off
functions can still be carried out.
Washing machines: No problem.

காமிராக்கள். தேதிகளைப் பதிவு செய்யும் காமிராக்கள் பாதிக்கப்படலாம்.அவற்றின் காலண்டர்கள்
1999ம் ஆண்டு வரைதான் இயங்கும். அதன்பின்னர் அது எந்த ஆண்டை தொடக்கத்தில் காட்டியதோ அத்தேதிக்கே
திரும்பிவிடும். புகைப்படத்தில் காட்டப்படும் தேதியில் மட்டும்தான் பாதிப்புஇருக்கும். காமிராவின்
இயக்கத்தில் பாதிப்பு ஏற்படாது.
காம்கோர்டர்கள்(ஒலிஇ/இஒளிப்பதிவுக்காமிராக்கள்): காட்சித்திரையில் காட்டப்படும் தேதி மட்டுமே
பாதிக்கப்படும்.

பேஃக்ஸ் இயந்திரம்: முன்கூட்டியே திட்டமிட்டு குறிப்பிட்ட தேதிகளில் அனுப்பிவைக்க வேண்டும் என முடிவு
செய்துவைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் தொலைப்பிரதி அனுப்பும் இயந்திரங்கள் பாதிக்கப்படலாம். அதில் அச்சிடப்படும்
தேதி தவறாக இருக்கும்.

நுண்அலை அடுப்பு(மைக்ரோவேவ் அவன்): பிரச்னை இல்லை.

வீடியோகேசட்ரெக்கார்டர்(ஒலிநாடாபதிவுக்கருவி) முன்கூட்டியே திட்டமிட்டுகுறிப்பிட்ட தேதிகளில்
பதிவு செய்யும், இயல்பாக திறந்துஅடைத்துக்கொள்ளும் செயல்பாட்டுத்திறன்பாதிக்கப்படலாம். ஆனால்
சாதாரணமாகக் கைகளால் தொட்டுப்பதிவுசெய்தல், படம் காட்டுதல்,திறத்தல், அடைத்தல் செயல்பாடுகளில்
கோளாறு ஏற்படாது.

சலவைசெய்யும் இயந்திரம்: பிரச்னை இல்லை.

To check household appliances for Y2K compliance, you can also carry out
the following tests:
Set the date and time of the appliance to Friday 31 December 1999 at
11.59pm. If the appliance clock can roll over to Saturday 1 January 2000
and continues to function, it is Y2K compliant.

Similarly, test whether the clock accepts 2000 as a leap year. Set the
appliance clock to Monday 28 February 2000 at 11.59 pm to see if it can
rollover to Tuesday 29 February 2000.
If the test fails, ask your supplier to fix it or consider replacing it.
Now you know your Y2K exposure at home and what to do about it, you need to
ensure that new purchases are Y2K compliant. When you buy new household
appliances, check with your supplier that the particular model is Y2K
compliant.

வீட்டு இயந்திரங்கள்/சாதனஙகள் y2kபிரச்னையால் பாதிக்கப்படாமலிருக்குமா என்பதைக்கண்டறிய
இச்சோதனையைச் செய்துபாருங்கள்:
இயந்திரம்/சாதனத்தின் தேதி நேரத்தை வெள்ளிக்கிழமை 31 டிசம்பர் 1999, இரவு11.59 என்று

அதைப்போலவே, 2000ம் ஆண்டு மிகுநாள்ஆண்டாக(லீப் இயர்) கருவிகளில் உள்ள கடிகாரங்கள்
ஏற்றுக்கொள்கின்றனவா என்று சோதனைசெய்துபாருங்கள்.
கருவியின் கடிகாரத்தை திங்கட்கிழமை,29 பிப்ரவரி 2000ம் ஆண்டு இரவு 11.59 மணிக்கு
மாற்றிவையுங்கள். அது எவ்விதப் பிரச்னையும் இன்றி செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை 29 பிப்ரவரி 2000ம் ஆண்டிற்கு
மாறுகிறதா என்று கவனியுங்கள்.

சோதனை தோல்வியடைந்தால், கருவிகளின் விநியோகிப்பாளர்கள் அதனைசரிசெய்யுமாறு கேளுங்கள்.
