அன்புள்ள இணையத்தாருக்கு,
எங்கள் ஊர்ப் பக்கத்தில் இருந்து வட்டித் தொழிலுக்கு என்று அந்தக் காலத்தில், மலேயா, பர்மா, சிங்கப்பூர்,
வியட்நாம், கம்போடியா என்று பலர் செல்வார்கள் (அது ஒரு தனி வரலாறு.) வட்டிக் கடை முதலாளிகள்
தாங்கள் போகாத காலங்களில் கடையைப் பார்த்துக் கொள்ள முகவர்களை (agents) அனுப்புவது உண்டு.
மூன்றாண்டு கணக்கு என்று ஒப்புக் கொண்டு ஒரு முகவர் போவார்; அவ்வப் பொழுது கணக்கை ஊருக்கு அனுப்புவார்.
கணக்கு முடிந்து, முதலாளியோ, அல்லது இன்னொரு முகவரோ வரும் வரை இந்த முகவர் இருப்பார்; பெரிய
கடைகளில் கொடுக்கல் வாங்கல் நிறையஇருந்தால், முகவர் போக, இன்னொருவரும்இருப்பார். அவர் பெயர்
அடுத்தாள். இவரைத் தான் ஆங்கிலத்தில் assistant என்று கூறுகிறார்கள்.
அடுத்து இருத்தல் என்றால் அணுகி இருத்தல்; நெருங்கி இருத்தல்; உதவியாக இருத்தல் என்று பொருள்.
தமிழிய மொழிகளுக்கும் இந்தையிரோப்பிய் மொழிகளுக்கும் இடையே பல இடங்களில் டகரம் தகரமாக
மாறும். தகரம் சகரமாக மாறும்.இந்த ஒலி மாற்றங்களுடன் 'அடுத்து இரு' என்பதை நோக்கினால்,
ad+sist > assist என்பதின் இணை புரியும். (அடுத்திரு என்பது அடுத்திடு என்றும் பலுக்கப் படும்,
குறிப்பாக தி.மு.க பேச்சாளர்கள், கலைஞரில் இருந்து கடைக்குட்டி வரை அப்படித்தான் பலுக்குவார்கள். அது
அவர்களின் நடை.)
assist: Etymologically, assist means 'stand by.' It comes, via French
assister, from Latin assistere, a compound verb formed from the prefix ad-
'near' and sistere 'stand' (related to Latin stare 'stand' from which
English gets state, station, status, statue, etc.) A remnant of this
original meaning survives in the sense 'be present without actually
participating,' but the main use of the word in English has always been
that which came from the metephorical sense of the Latin verb - 'help'
பேச்சு வழக்கில் "நீ எங்கேயும் போயிடாதே; அடுத்தாப்புலெ இரு" என்று கூறினால் பக்கத்தில் இருந்து
உதவி செய் என்று பொருள்.
இன்றைக்கு assist என்ற பொருளில் எதற்கு எடுத்தாலும் உதவி என்ற சொல்லையே ஆளுகிறோம். உதவியாள்
என்ற சொல் வந்தபின் அடுத்தாள் என்ற ஆட்சியே விளங்காது போய்விட்டது. இன்னும் சொல்லப் போனால்,
அடுத்திரு/அடுத்திடு/அடுவு என்ற வினையே காணாது போய்விட்டது.
(இந்த 'இரு' என்ற துணைவினை இல்லாமலேயே, தமிழில் சொல்ல முடியும்.)
ஒரு எடுத்துக்காட்டு பார்ப்போமா?
"என்னப்பா, எனக்கு அடுவுவாயா? (உதவுவாயா என்பது போல)
"என்னங்க, அப்படிச் சொல்லிட்டீங்க, உங்களுக்கு அடுவாமாலா? அதுவும் நீங்க எவ்வளவோ எனக்கு அடுத்திருக்கும்
(அல்லது அடுவியிருக்கும்) போது....."
