Anbulla Thamil Innaiya Erumbugale,

Together with Norway Jayapalan (now in Chennai),
Ex-Shanghai-now-based-in-Chennai Siva, and several other Erumbugals, we will
be building the foundations for the unleashing of TPCC (Tamil-powered
computing and communications) driven mind mobility.

I will be in Chennai in a few weeks time to move this to the next stage.

If you are responsive, reliable, responsible and resourceful, we would love
to hear from you. Below expands on what we mean by these 4 Rs.

bala2pillai: siva - eppidi saukiyamaa?
cnsivakumar: hai bala
bala2pillai: eppidi siva..unga arimugam padithaen - nanri :-)
cnsivakumar: my pleasure bala
bala2pillai: unga thaai moli thamilaa kannadamaa?
cnsivakumar: telungu
bala2pillai: oh :-)
bala2pillai: can u speak telugu well?
cnsivakumar: yes
bala2pillai: and write?
cnsivakumar: no just talk
bala2pillai: I see..how about Tamil - can u speak and write well?
cnsivakumar: ya very well
bala2pillai: hmm..great :-)
bala2pillai: how come? u went thru Tamil schooling mostly?
cnsivakumar: yes my first language is tamil
cnsivakumar: i grew up in chennai
bala2pillai: ok.
bala2pillai: let me look at your intro again and suggest path options.
cnsivakumar: ok thanks
bala2pillai: you see..I can hire you if you show much greater responsiveness
and reliability - it costs me too much to chase (and other employers will
feel the same costs). You need to help build confidence in the eyes of
prospective employers. :-)
bala2pillai: you have great strengths - your cognition is higher than
average, you are wired - these are powerful - you are top 1% in the Tamil
world on both these counts.
bala2pillai: and you are interaction-ready -- a good indicator of speed in
adopting change.
cnsivakumar: really?
bala2pillai: YES!
bala2pillai: leverage these strengths.
bala2pillai: You will find that I call a spade, a spade :-)
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: not call a spade an landscape design implement :-)
cnsivakumar: oh i understand
cnsivakumar: ok bala, you tell me what i am expected to do
bala2pillai: ok -just a sec.
bala2pillai: let me suck in your intro again :-)
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: Siva..what subjects/areas are your parents' favourites?
cnsivakumar: u mean what they taught in school?
bala2pillai: either that or what attracts their interest.
bala2pillai: what do they seem to make time for somehow..
cnsivakumar: my father is very good in english
cnsivakumar: he has a very big library
cnsivakumar: he collects books
bala2pillai: I see - so he is an avid reader, like me :-)
cnsivakumar: yes
cnsivakumar: he knows telugu and tamil also
bala2pillai: what fields does he read most?
bala2pillai: philosophy? science? economics?
cnsivakumar: language books
bala2pillai: ok.
bala2pillai: does he write much?
cnsivakumar: he used to write guide materials for school books
cnsivakumar: he has compiled a dictionary
bala2pillai: hmm..what English-Tamil..or?
cnsivakumar: yes
cnsivakumar: he never learned tamil in school, he learned himself and he is
better than any tamilian i know
bala2pillai: Super - and I would not be surprised at all :-)
bala2pillai: how old is he?
cnsivakumar: 61
bala2pillai: he is young :-)
bala2pillai: is he reasonably healthy?
cnsivakumar: yes
bala2pillai: ok...and your mother..does she have interests/hobbies?
cnsivakumar: she is MSc zoology, MA Tamil literature
bala2pillai: Wow! :-)
cnsivakumar: but now she just watches TV
bala2pillai: how old is mum?
cnsivakumar: :)
cnsivakumar: 60
bala2pillai: ok.
bala2pillai: ok...here is an idea for you...but some background first..
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: I have reflected deeply...
bala2pillai: and you will notice that I'm mostly into self-sustainable
community projects, i.e. get people to value what is done and get them to
pay for it.
bala2pillai: Not necessarily immediately, but in time.
bala2pillai: Alongst these lines, I want to co-lead the launch of TPCC.
bala2pillai: TPCC = Tamil-powered computing and communications.
bala2pillai: Consider TPCC as a child of VPCC -- vernacular-powered
computing and communications.
bala2pillai: So with you, your dad and possibly mum (in time I think she
would come in)...
bala2pillai: we can make moves in doing this for the Tamil and Telugu
bilingual Tamil/English and Telugu/English worlds.
bala2pillai: are you with me so far? :-)
cnsivakumar: yes
cnsivakumar: not fully understood
cnsivakumar: what TPCC is going to do
bala2pillai: ok.. let me go on..and that may illuminate it more. Also print
this out when we finish..and discuss it with your dad and mum, ok?
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: Doesn't matter to me if they agree or not, just want them to be
aware of the possibility, that's all :-)
bala2pillai: Plant a seed, and let nature take its course, if it is grow
now, grow later, grow in another plot, or never grow :-)
bala2pillai: Like a tree, my job is to increase the chances, by dispersing
more seeds :-)
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: ok..now to TPCC.
bala2pillai: Let me cut and paste from a conversation I had with Prabhu -
just a second.
cnsivakumar: sorry for interupting, reminds me a saying "when you eat a
fruit, think about the man who planted the tree"
bala2pillai: :-):-) Good one! :-)
bala2pillai: BEGIN CUT & PASTE...
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: hmm..cut and paste is not working - must be a memory shortage
issue..ok will try another way :-)
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: siva..hang in there..do whatever else you are doing while I
figure this out - might take 5 mins.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: bala2pillai (06:12:12 AM): Naan munthi unga kitta sonnan alla -
100% user-friendly Tamil enabled computers?
prabhu_ramanathan (06:12:20 AM): yes
bala2pillai (06:12:38 AM): Antha vanigathai launch pannurathukku.
prabhu_ramanathan (06:13:03 AM): appuram web server hire pannuratha pathi
enna enna ninaikkaringa bala?
bala2pillai (06:13:08 AM): We want to take care of the top level.
prabhu_ramanathan (06:13:09 AM): kandippa pannalam bala
prabhu_ramanathan (06:13:18 AM): top level means
bala2pillai (06:13:36 AM): Web server neraiya paer irukaanga - neenga Net-la
search pannunaa no shortage.
prabhu_ramanathan (06:14:03 AM): illa naan oru server co locate pannalamannu
yosichukittu irrukken
bala2pillai (06:14:06 AM): top level means we go to the top of the food
chain...let me explain.
bal
bala2pillai: bala2pillai (06:18:12 AM): We are aiming to be the "Microsoft"
of Tamil computing and communications.
prabhu_ramanathan (06:18:23 AM): nice
bala2pillai (06:18:53 AM): we focus on the software and support features
that go into computers for Tamil C & C.
bala2pillai (06:19:12 AM): both open source and Windows platform.
prabhu_ramanathan (06:19:14 AM): c& c nna
bala2pillai (06:19:23 AM): computing and communications.
prabhu_ramanathan (06:19:37 AM): sorry proceed
bala2pillai (06:19:48 AM): so we will do the following:-
bala2pillai (06:20:04 AM): 1) set up the prototype hard-disk
prabhu_ramanathan (06:20:12 AM): ok
bala2pillai (06:20:21 AM): 2) have YIM support in Tamil
bala2pillai (06:20:37 AM): 3) organise the marketing/customer support
materials
bala2pillai (06:20:43 AM): 4) org
bala2pillai: bala2pillai (06:20:43 AM): 4) organise the help desk
bala2pillai (06:20:53 AM): 5) tie up the strategic alliances
bala2pillai (06:21:37 AM): 6) organise the TV marketing under the Tamil.Com
brand name (the computers will say "powered by Tamil.Com")
bala2pillai (06:22:12 AM): 7) decide on the minimum hardware specs
bala2pillai (06:22:38 AM): 8) determine credible suppliers of this hardware
bala2pillai (06:23:05 AM): 9) establish relationships with pre-selected
distributors of Tamil.Com around TN
bala2pillai (06:23:24 AM): so what role can you play in this you think?
prabhu_ramanathan (06:23:51 AM): you tell me?what can i?
bala2pillai (06:24:08 AM): I don't know...if I tell you, you won't own the
role.
bala2pillai (06:24:26 AM): You have to think of the role from your heart.
bala2pillai: -- END COPY & PASTE --
bala2pillai: Siva - let me know when you're finished reading above. :-)
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: brb.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: ask me questions as they arise :-)
cnsivakumar: ok sure
bala2pillai: ok am back.
bala2pillai: Questions?
cnsivakumar: just a minute bala
bala2pillai: no probs..take your time..we can do IC (interupted
communication)
bala2pillai: (multiple tasking) :-)
cnsivakumar: :)
bala2pillai: Above is the big picture in which we can carve the small
picture for you, dad and mum.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: Many small pictures comprising you, current and imminent
Erumbugals makes the big picture.
cnsivakumar: 100% user friendly tamil computers - does that mean a operating
system in tamil?
bala2pillai: No.
bala2pillai: The immediate step is to have it such that:-
bala2pillai: a) a person can buy a computer and be able to use it for
communications in Tamil without knowing tech.
bala2pillai: so we seam together software components that are currently
available.
bala2pillai: we do the seaming.
bala2pillai: we do it such that using Tamil computing is as close to the
user-orientedness as using a microwave oven as is possible - that's
Tamil.Com 1.0
bala2pillai: the benefits we are persuading upon people are...
bala2pillai: a) Build relationships with Tamils all over the world and see
success.
bala2pillai: b) Tamil.Com makes using Tamil Computing as easy as a-aa-e-ee.
bala2pillai: c) Convert your mind and relationships for money with Tamil.Com
cnsivakumar: what exactly is tamil computing?
bala2pillai: ok..what is English computing?
bala2pillai: for the typical user?
bala2pillai: and think of C&C - computing and communications.
cnsivakumar: using the computer with the aid of english?
bala2pillai: using C&C to research, to write, to learn, to build
relationships, to find work, to play.
bala2pillai: you found me with English C&C right?
bala2pillai: what if you were not fluent in English?
bala2pillai: what if you were lots more fluent in Tamil?
bala2pillai: or Telugu?
bala2pillai: what are the impediments for 2 Tamil-fluent people to build the
relationship you and I have done?
bala2pillai: and take the lay user -- not the techie.
cnsivakumar: so people should be able to compute and communicate in the
Internet without depending on english, am i right?
bala2pillai: They can depend on little English.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: we will aim at the bilingual market first.
cnsivakumar: now i know what tamil computing is, how it can be acheived?
bala2pillai: meaning those who already own computers but who would be able
to do lots more if they could use their vernacular language skills with it.
cnsivakumar: ok got it
bala2pillai: you mean more detail into Steps 1) to 9) above?
cnsivakumar: ya it would be better
bala2pillai: We will gradually move to the Tamil-only market.
cnsivakumar: for me to understand
bala2pillai: okay..which of the Steps?
bala2pillai: that is communication - you have to be more specific.
bala2pillai: that is caring for the time resources of the party you are
talking to.
bala2pillai: :-)
cnsivakumar: i am sorry i couldn't help it, before talking about the steps i
want to know what is to be done
bala2pillai: Well what is to be done, would be solely dependant upon which
of the Steps above or Steps I might have left out....
bala2pillai: that you are likely to be more (rather than less) responsive
and reliable in.
bala2pillai: If I ask you do something that is not your **real** forte, than
I am designing the organisation to fail, aren't I?
cnsivakumar: ya sure
bala2pillai: So sure..we will go on a path of increasing success via some
trial and error...
bala2pillai: But surely there are some areas that you are more likely to
like and some that you don't.
bala2pillai: and some that you are neutral about..
bala2pillai: we are seeking to increase the chances of organisational
success.
bala2pillai: and thereby reduce the cost of the end-product.
cnsivakumar: ok i got it
cnsivakumar: what's YIM support?
cnsivakumar: in tamil
bala2pillai: YIM in Tamil -- so customers can get help-desk via Tamil YIM
bala2pillai: YIM = Yahoo Instant Messenger.
cnsivakumar: oh ok
bala2pillai: and they can build relationships with Tamildom citizens.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: and soon voice and webcam.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: and producers who organise learning programs in Tamil.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: this your mum and dad can really come in, in a big way.
cnsivakumar: ok
cnsivakumar: in what way?
bala2pillai: They can teach today's Tamil to English speaking Tamils.
bala2pillai: they can interact (answer queries) on the topics they are good
at.
bala2pillai: They can assign assignments..
bala2pillai: They can organise tests..
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: They can update curriculums - target the hobby/net-jobs Tamil
market
bala2pillai: They can set the stage for Tamil.Com certificates.
bala2pillai: You see they are more likely to be able to think deeper than
you.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: cos this is their forte.
cnsivakumar: i know that:)
bala2pillai: my forte is the space between your mind and mine --
cyberspace -- shaping it.
bala2pillai: reshaping it.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: so with them, we can reshape and update current curriculum for
the vagaries of cyberspace.
cnsivakumar: ok
cnsivakumar: i'll talk about this to my parents
bala2pillai: More immediately..we can get your dad to provide components for
the online dictionary.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: we are looking for a dictionary that has today's Tamil words...
cnsivakumar: oh
bala2pillai: dating, risk-taking etc
cnsivakumar: u mean 'pechu thamil' or new tamil words?
bala2pillai: economics, innovation, discovery, cell-phones, computer, chat,
etc etc
cnsivakumar: ok so u mean new words
bala2pillai: I'll have to discuss with your dad on how we do this -- I want
pechu Tamil and new Tamil to merge..to reduce the diglossia in Tamil.
bala2pillai: equivalents for brb etc
cnsivakumar: ok but computer is alien thing for him:)
bala2pillai: tell him that this has everything to do with minds and nothing
to do with computing..
cnsivakumar: i don't know how u can communicate with him
bala2pillai: the computing part we have lots of people.
cnsivakumar: i mean your direct communication with him
bala2pillai: well...what you will find is that if something is
interesting/exciting enough, people will learn the tools needed to move that
exciting thing.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: it is entirely possible that he doesn't envisage "halls without
walls" like I do.
bala2pillai: you are in computing -- I am not -- I am a mind mobiliser.
bala2pillai: and your dad is a mind-mobiliser too.
bala2pillai: and if in the transition, at worst, you can be the intermediary
between your dad and me.
bala2pillai: Erumbugal can email you..
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: you can be using YIM at home and call him..
bala2pillai: we can voice together etc etc..
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: for heaven sake..don't put a low low low low ceiling to your
and our minds.
bala2pillai: :-)
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: I mean people buy fridges for cold water..not for the fridge
itself...
bala2pillai: so if he sees the fruits..than he will see the need to go
through the "pain" of learning to enjoy the fruits :-)
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: cos he can make an impact on the New Millenia Tamil
bala2pillai: he is likely to have relationships with others who can join the
team - we are very very short of top-notch responsive and reliable people.
cnsivakumar: so in simple terms shall i say him that, his help is needed in
compiling a tamil dictionary .
cnsivakumar: ?
bala2pillai: Present this whole thing to him...so he sees the stage...
bala2pillai: and then say that there are many possible "actor" roles...
bala2pillai: he may have ideas on what "actor" role he can play..
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: and if not, my suggestion is... the online dictionary..
bala2pillai: he might be able to identify other pieces of this jig-saw
puzzle.
bala2pillai: that he or his reliable friends are good at.
bala2pillai: you see you think in terms of tasks...
bala2pillai: I think in terms of responsiveness, reliability, responsibility
and resourcefullness.
bala2pillai: folks who have these 4 Rs, simply deliver!!
bala2pillai: They just do or find somebody to do. They get things DONE.
bala2pillai: the others wait, provide excuses etc etc and increase costs.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: :-)
bala2pillai: brb.
cnsivakumar: ok
cnsivakumar: brb
bala2pillai: back..
bala2pillai: other things that your dad could take charge of could be...
bala2pillai: 1) dummies guides to building relationships in Tamildom
bala2pillai: 2) dummies guides to providing services in Tamildom
bala2pillai: 3) dummies guide to Viral Marketing basics
bala2pillai: 4) glossary for New Millenia Tamils
bala2pillai: 5) Dummies guide to Innovation Economics
bala2pillai: the whole field of Tamil user documentation is at its embryo
stages.
bala2pillai: most documentation is written by the techs - and it is
useless..it is what happens when you get a car mechanic to write a driving
basics book. The mechanic is too caught up in the insides of the car - he
doesn't think as much of the fact that people care more about how to get
from Place A to B with minimum fuss.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: we need artists -- not tunnel-visioned very narrow computer
techies.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: we need people who make the MIND the centre, not the computer
tools the centre.
bala2pillai: who realise there are several categories of minds...several
learning orientations.
cnsivakumar: ok
bala2pillai: you and I are using YIM thanks to the artists.
bala2pillai: the artists and the techies who work together.
bala2pillai: it is the artists who would have insisted that YIM be real easy
to download and use without any tech knowledge.
bala2pillai: and would have constantly reduced the number of settings
needed.
bala2pillai: Compare the number of settings and user manuals you have to
read and implement to use Tamil to the number of steps for getting going in
YIM.
cnsivakumar: i am getting it now
bala2pillai: compare the amount of tech knowledge that is needed to
understand and implement the settings and user manuals in Tamil vs using
YIM.
bala2pillai: so why should we be surprised that VPCC is waiting to be
unleashed.
bala2pillai: by imaginative, organisational and innovative groups like
Thamil Innaiyam.
bala2pillai: our minds are open.
bala2pillai: techs mostly have very closed minds.
cnsivakumar: ok
cnsivakumar: bala brb
bala2pillai: ok.
cnsivakumar: just amin
cnsivakumar: do you know 'SUJATHA' the tamil novelist.?
cnsivakumar: I have to go now
cnsivakumar: my dad is in chennai now, he will be returning soon. i'll talk
to him and come to you,
cnsivakumar: bye
cnsivakumar: thanks for your time
cnsivakumar: :)
bala2pillai: ok..print this out and show it to him, get his questions, and I
will answer them. Be responsive, i.e. don't wait for me to chase on this
action item :-)
