Six of family killed in accident, on way to
airport
By K. Manikandan
KANCHEEPURAM, NOV. 28. Six persons of an Ambur
family were among eight
killed on the spot in a head-on collision at
Thirumangalam on National Highway 4
early this morning.
They were on their way to the Chennai airport to
receive a relative, Mr. Abdul
Rahim, who was returning from Sharjah for the
first time in two years since he took
up a Gulf job.
A little over 1 km from the Sunguvarchathiram
police station, their Tata Sumo and a
tractor-trailer collided.
The deceased are Ms. Fathima (40), wife of Mr.
Abdul Rahim, their two sons
Basheer (14) and Shabir (12); Mr. Sanarullah (42)
and Ms. Sayenaaz (43), brother
and sister of Mr. Abdul Rahim, six- year- old
Dhansur, son of Mr. Sanarullah; Mr.
Wayeezillah, a friend of the family, and
24-year-old Yeththaas, driver of the Tata
Sumo.
The injured were Mr. Nissar Ahmed (19), son of
Mr. Abdul Rahim, and the driver
and cleaner of the tractor-trailer, which was
carrying chemicals from the Chennai
Harbour to Ranipet.
The driver of the trailer lorry, Palani (21), has
been detained.
Mr. Abdul Rahim was an unconsolable man. Amidst
tears, he said at the
Sriperubudur Government Hospital, where the
bodies were kept for post-mortem,
that he had booked a flight for Monday night but
it was cancelled, forcing him to
take another flight last night.
