The World Tamil Confederation Begins Journey with the Opening of
the World Tamils Bank to Protect Tamils All Over the World
[EelamNation, December 12/2001]
This long-overdue organization is being inaugurated to protect Tamils the
world over in the name of the World Tamil Confederation (WTC) with the main
objective of protecting their language, arts and cultural identity; and to
institute the provision of physical welfare for Tamils, in addition to the
protection of their civic, political and human rights wherever they may be
subject to deprivation.
"World Tamils Bank" has also been opened with the support of the Indian
Reserve Bank in order to elevate the economic welfare of Tamils, according
to the WTC organizers.
The organization announces the holding of the first WTC-Conference in
Chennai, TamilNadu, India, in April 2002. This was proposed when Tamil
leaders from all over the world gathered in India on September 09, 1999.
Tamil organizations in over twenty countries have joined forces in the World
Tamil Confederation, and all these would participate in the first
conference, according to the organizers.
The WTC has also announced the choice of a common
Tamil National Anthem, besides
identity-promoting clothes, flag and bank. They
said that the respective Tamil Nadu and
Tamil Eelam National Anthems would be respected in
their host countries, but the Eelam
Poet Laureate Kasi Ananthan's creation of a common
Tamil National Anthem will be sung
in cultural and other social events. This long
overdue event will serve to usher in the 21st
century, the organizers said.
The organizers said that the World Tamils Bank would
play a leading role in the elevation
of the largely poor Tamil masses and would help them
in increasing their economic
prosperity. The World Tamils Bank will function
under the Indian Reserve Bank, and it
would extend its services to Tamils living in many
countries. The organization says it will
re-consider the situation of Tamils in the world,
and then seek ways and means to let them
succeed in business, education, etc.
Mr. Nedumaran has been elected President of the
World Tamil Confederation. Mr.
Veerappan of Malaysia, Mr. Chelliah of Canada, Mr.
Ananthan of France, Mr.
Sothinaathan of South Africa, Mr. Panchavarnam and
Mr. Maarimuthu of Burma, Dr.
Govindasamy, and Mr. Rahuman of India are some of
the committee members representing
over twenty world organizations.
