He is the Waters we bathe in
After getting rid of the binding births.
He is the Dancer who holds fire
And dances at Cirrampalam in Thillai.
Creator, Preserver and Destroyer
Of the heaven and earth and all.
Let us sing his praise in words.
Let the bangles jingle.
Let the ornaments at the waist cry in happiness.
Let the bees hover around our perfumed hair.
Let us thus bathe in the waters of the spring
Falling at the feet of our Lord.
The maids on the pavai observance sing in praise of God and bathe in the
waters of the spring. One of them tells the other about how it is and it
makes up the twelfth song of Thiruvempavai.
Arunakirinathar would say that one should count the particles of the sands
of all the seven seas to find that the number of births that souls take is
greater. It is the binding confinement of birth that holds the souls back
from salvation. How then is salvation to be achieved, escaping the vicious
circle?
Nammalvar would say, “Once attachment is severed, Salvation is achieved”.
Thiruvalluvar would say that once the feet of God are held firmly, the great
ocean of births can be crossed.
These maids experience such a bliss. With the grace of the Dancing Siva at
Cirrampalam in Thillai, they sever the binding of births and get immersed in
the grace of God.
They call God the Creator, Preserver and Destroyer. Kampan would also say
that He plays an immense game in which he makes all the worlds, preserves
them and dismisses them. The phrase ‘all the worlds’ gets explained in the
words of Manivacakar. The world of perceptible forms, the world of concepts,
the heaven and all the other worlds. Dancing Siva is the one who makes them,
takes care of them and destroys them finally all in His game.
Bharathy also would say that making and destroying are but Her (sakthi)
deed.
The maids celebrate the severing of the binding confinement of births in the
poem. How do they celebrate it? They celebrate it so joyously that their
bangles jingle; the ornaments at their waists makes noise; it is such a
hilarious celebration, you see!
