THIRUVEMPAVAI - DAY FOURTEEN - SONG FOURTEEN

Translation
Let us dance together!
For the earstuds to sway, for the jewels to sway,
For the plaits of hair to sway, for the gnats hovering around the
hair to sway,
Let us enter the cold waters and sing in praise of Cirrampalam.
Let us celebrate the message of the vedhas and the meaning of the
Vedhas, the God.
Let us celebrate the fiery valour of God and the beauty of his
konrai garland.
Let us celebrate God who is the Beginning and the End.
Let us fall at the feet of Goddess
Who cures us of the impurities of embodiment.
Let us dance together!
We have already seen the verbal felicity of the thirteenth song commensurate
with the felicity of sense.
It is characteristic of human passion to manifest in dance and song. The
arrangement of words and the grandeur of content together make the
fourteenth song of Thiruvempavai an expression of bubbling bliss.
rland, the hair and all sway in dance. Song accompanies the dance and the
song is loaded with praise of the abode of God at Chirrampalam, the
implications of the vedhas, God who is the inner meaning of the vedhas, the
fiery valour of God, God's garland and God becoming the Beginning and the
End of all.
The Goddess is assigned grace that cures men of the impurities of
embodiment. The song is a call to sing and dance and bathe as part of the
pavai observance.
Even as the dance in delight is spoken about, there is sudden swing to the
cosmic dance of Siva. If one were to sing the praise of God and step into
the cold water, the cold stops biting one.
The last three lines of the song celebrate the grandeur and greatness of God
who is both the Beginning and the End. The grace of such a magnificent God
is made available to man by his consort.
By implication, the song means that singing in praise of God dispels both
physical cold and mental impurities, the inevitable accompaniment of
embodiment.
Word, meaning and attitude surge like a series of incessant waves one after
the other in the song.
Cirrampalam is the plain of wisdom. The Vedhas take their origin from it.
>From the Vedhas appear consciousness. God remains the flame within the
consciousness. Saiva metaphysics refers to the same as "cUthilAtha
ciRRampalac cOthi".
The pond becomes a symbol of the bliss of melting in the contemplation of
God's form of male/female forces.
Cekkilar would identify the attitudinal phenomenon described in the song in
the following words.
Those who sink in the stream of the bliss taking its origin from the cosmic
dance of Siva who dons the crescent on his head become endlessly blissful.
It is the same bliss that is the due of the maids who observe the pavai
ritual and out of the bliss is born the dance and the song.
