Translation

Hail to Thee, the Origin of my life!
Dawned has it.
Let us pray showering flowers at your lotus feet
With the brightness of your grace on our smiling faces.
Civa of Thirupperunthurai where are muddy fields
Where the lotus bloom.
Bull flagged! You possess us.
Our Lord! Wake up to grace us!

Thiruppalliyelucci is sung praising Him who is the origin of life. The maids
offer flowers at His feet. They wear bright smiles on their faces - the
smile bestowed on them by Him.

“The Origin of life” in line 1 and “You possess us” in line 7 are found to
complement each other. Civa is the origin and content of the life of the
devotees. Such Civa has them and everything of them as His own.
Dr.M.R.P.Gurusamy, while explicating this song, had regretted, “The pavai
literature is meant for religious integration. But the two pieces of pavai
literature are nowadays not to be found on the same platform. Vaishnavites
continue with their Thiruppavai and Saivites continue reminding themselves
of Thiruvempavai.”

Thanks to tamil.net, agathiyars and meykandars and the other avid readers of
this series for providing Ramani with a common platform for both Thiruppavai
and Thiruvempavai.

Incidentally, it is said that information technology has moved from a stage
of emergence to that of convergence. Ramani feels that information has now
gone ahead from convergence to integration. He hopes that the integration of
the global citizen is not long for the asking.
