Anbulla Germany Kannan,
Below letter to Malaysiakini, is representative of the feelings of most
courageous thinking Malaysians
I notice that you are going overboard in continuing your "maalai-ying" of
Samy Vellu because of the US$10,000 of poor Tamils money that he transferred
to the E-Suvadi cause. By all means, you did right in pitching for and
getting the money - I applaud you for that. But 1) remember that it is *not*
his money and 2) please don't go overboard -- you might not realise it, but
you are being insensitive to the vast majority of thinking Tamil-Malaysians
who see this as you getting overly gleeful over crumbs thrown to you.
For example, the US$10,000 is nothing compared to the congregating costs of
Thamil
Innaiyam http://www.tamil.net since it's inception in 1995 (Ignoring paying
attention to real costs due to ostriching is tantamount to wilful
negligence. It does not make the costs disappear. Worse still, ignoring the
trickle-down implications, eg no Tamil investment in Tamil networked economy
risk-taking and innovation; therefore no new economy Tamil jobs; therefore
no money in the society for uplifting Tamil speaking out of poverty, of such
ignorance).
I realise this hard message, is an unpleasant for you to hear. But do find
the strength to address the message, rather than get distracted by the
messenger.

Minister must learn to be humble
K Balan
Kuala Lumpur
6:04pm, Sat: I refer to MIC president S Samy Vellu's recent statement that
dividing Indians will
impede the progress of the community and also his outburst against the
critics of MIC's medicalcollege.
Samy fails to realise that he, more than anything or anyone else, is the
cause for division among the Indians in the country. His
arrogance and 'superiority complex' has divided the community into
different camps and parties.
It was due to him and during his era when many Indian-based parties and
NGO's emerged and managed to attract disgruntled MIC members into their
camps thus paving the way for a divided Indian community.
Samy again demonstrated his arrogance by brushing aside feedback from
concerned citizens on the proposed multi-million ringgit
medical school.
He does not accept feedback positively and ridicules them instead. Is this
the way a leader should behave?
His justification for the setting up of a medical school is laughable. He
claims that there is a shortage of universities in the country and that the
medical school is set up to enable more students to enter institutions of
higher learning.
Development of education in this country is the responsibility of the
education ministry and the
government. Why should MIC squeeze the Indian community for donations to
build the medical school? Are the donors' family members guaranteed a place
in the medical school?
I believe that the money could be well spent for other purposes, for the
advancement of the Indian community.
Samy should learn to be humble and respect feedback from the public. After
all who is he without the support of the rakyat?
