I hear your position below, and as things stand, I feel it is much more true
than not.
But the essence is this: as "bad" as the Americans are, as police of the
world, people would prefer the Americans to the Arabs/Osama to police the
world. Even most thinking Arabs and Muslims would grudgingly agree so.
The solution: the Muslims must get their act together. They must rethink and
move towards talking from a position of sustainable strength, rather than
defensiveness from a position of weakness. The Muslims and Arabs *must*
dedicate serious resources to addressing the central flaws in contemporary
Islamic non-society. While there are some positive signals, the denial-led
trajectory is *not* good. It is time for courageous Muslims to move the
Muslim nucleus away from the Arab states to more open-minded centres like
Malaysia, India and Indonesia (and if the Musharraf anti-Islamic
defensiveness moon continues to rise, Pakistan too).
