How far can a society go if it coffins courage?

How far can a chess player go if he only wants to play with players that are
weaker than him? If he prefers to win against a weaker player, instead of
losing to a stronger one? If he sets up environments where stronger players
cannot emerge?

Would the jungles be better off without lions and tigers? Would not there be
an overpopulation of deers? Would not the vegetation be wiped out? Does not
the existence of lions make deers fitter? If you were a wise deer who cared
for its grandchildren as much as you cared for yourself, would you prefer
there to be lions or no lions? Is not a balance between lions and lambs and
in-betweens a better bet? Did Nature/God it wrong?

Is not risk-taking a type of courage?

Does not starting businesses require courage? Does not innovation require
courage? Since businesses die, is there not a need for new businesses and
innovations to be created to replace dying ones?

How do we endear risk-taking and courage?

In the long term (think of your children), is not the cost of discouraging
courage, higher than the cost of encouraging courage?

How far can a society go if it coffins courage?

cheers../bala
