Thanks, Subramanian Ganesh, for translating
CiRRampalam/Cittampalam as "Tiny Hall".
Experts of religion do consider your explanation as
correct. See Paul Younger,
The home of the Dancing Sivan, OxfordUP.
P. Younger has worked on Cidambaram and Srirangam
for decades.
As I recall, Younger says something like
"cittampalam (= ciRRampalam)
means Tiny Hall, perhaps wooden. The colloquial
form cittampalam (in tamil) gives rise
to Cit + amparam by Sanskrit myth makers'
linking the "cit" philosophically with many
meanings".
