from Prof K.C.Chellamuthu to Dr P.Chandra Bose.

I know
that Dr Ganesan has been doing very good in Houston establishing a good
rapport
with all the Tamil community around US. I spoke with him couple of years
ago to
help Venkatesan when he arrived first in houston. Ganesan is very much
interested in tamilology, debates tamil sangam, archaeological stuff etc., =
In
the midst of a busy and crazy life around here atleast people like him keep=

the
Tamil spirit alive here. I appreciate his interest in Tamil and affection f=
or
the Tamil culture. Although I spent about 10 yrs in Tamil University doing
all kinds of stuff,
unfortunately, my research and work in US did not give me an opportunity to=

pursue the same interest again; except Vasu and myself wrote two papers in
natural language processing way back in early 90's.

AS regards to my Tamil font and wordprocessing in TU, that was I believe in=

1983-86 period, we developed a word processor (i believe that was the first=

one
those days) and we have used it for local documentation communication and
conversion of transliterated tamil text to tamil scripts etc. Then in the
transliteration project we developed systems to convert romanised scripts i=
n
Hindi, bengali, malayalam, tamil, punjabi to original scripts using a dot
matrix fonts. You know those days we did not have all the sophisticated
hardware/software and resources; but then after Agasti came everything came=
to
standstill. I believe in the last 10 yrs many business groups came out with=

all
kinds of tamil fonts, wordprocessors etc., some of them freely available ov=
er
internet. This provides a tamil email, wordprocessing etc possible in the
cyber
world. In the other project we designed the Tamil keyboard based on some
changes
using the same roman keyboard. This way our wordprocessing was done using t=
he
same roman keyboard. Later we used the same concept to design the Tamil
keyboard
for Teleprinter in 1985 (project with IIt, Anna uty and Hindustan
Teleprinter).

Goodluck.
