<BR>I chant the name of the creator of all that is auspicious! He is the 
<BR>beloved of Abhirami and bears the moon on his forehead! He is worshipped as 
<BR>a pot bearing nectar!

<BR>His lotus feet are worshipped by Brahma and others! He gave long life to 
<BR>his devotee Markandeya! Having taken a fierce and awesome form he punished 
<BR>Yama and thereby blessed him! He nourishes the lotus faced Subrahmanya! He 
<BR>is the ocean of compassion!
<BR>Notes:
<BR>This kriti is on the presiding deity at Tirukkadayur. The sage Markandeya 
<BR>was cursed to die at the age of sixteen. He however worshipped Shiva who on 
<BR>the fateful day sprang out the lingam and kicked Yama who had come to take 
<BR>away Markandeya�s life. Markandeya was blessed to ever be sixteen years of age
<BR>and he became a chiranjeevi. This is the sthala purana which is described 
<BR>in the kriti. The Lingam is said to be a pot carrying nectar that settled 
<BR>at this spot after the deluge. The raga name is in the line abhirAmI 
<BR>manOharam. When one is punished by an elder it is considered to be for 
<BR>one�s own good and hence a blessing. Which is why the line yama 
<BR>nigrAnugraham has been used.
