Dear Siva PiLLai,

Siva Rathri is on the 12th.

The anchorage point is the sun-set.
At whichever place that a person may be in, in whichever
part of the world he may be, its the time of sun-set that
should considered.
>From that point of time, you have to take the time
upto the morning of the following sun-rise.
This length of night is divided into 4 parts. Each of them
are the jaamams.
Puja and abishegam to Sivalinggam is done at each
jaamam.
Puja with Vilva leaves is good. Vilva leaves are exceptional
from other leaves and flowers. It does not have what is known
as 'nir-maalya dhOsham'.
You can dry it and keep it for as long as you like.
The leaves can be reused for any number of times.

The problem with institutionalised religion is that
it loses its intrinsic essence. The outer trappings and paraphernalia
get more attention and these are mistaken to be religion
proper. It is even difficult the convince what is real religion.

A real reformation can come about, only when a certain
acceptable degree of deintitutionalisation is applied.

But again a reinstitutionalisation would take place.
For instance, many siddhars and yogis deinstitutionalised
religion.
But then, their followers made themselves into sects, cults,
orders, schools, and colleges. Some of them become mini-religions
on their own with rigid patterns, ideologies, practices, traditions,
ceremonies, and rituals. In due course, they themselves become
sectarian and communal.
Thus religion becomes devoid of its life-giving force
and energy and vitality.
When politicisation and regionalisation is incorporated
into institutionalisaton, the problem becomes more acute.

That is why a good deal of pragmatic presonalisation of
religion has to be compulsory.

Siva Rathri can be celbrated by reciting the PORRi
Thiru-agaval of MaNikka VAsagar and the PORRi Thiru-
Thandakam of Appar.
In addition Kaala Paasa ThirukkuRundhokai,
Paava Naasa ThirukkuRundhokai , and the Siddha Thokai Thiru
KuRundhkai and the Aadhi PuraaNa Thiru KuRundhokai by Appar.
