Meaning:
Oh, the One with stain adorned throat ! The One Who
pressed down the thoughtless king of dark-sea
surrounded lanka breaking his shoulders ! The veda
glorified Singer ! The One in madhuraith thiruvAlavAy
! (my)niyama is to keep thinking about You with the
heart of perfection !
Notes:
1. niyama is principles and motto. (This is one of the
eight steps in aShTAnga yoga after yama - discipline).
While yama is common to all, niyama are specifically
the ones taken up by the devotees as an individual
rule. One could see in the life of 63 devotees
different services were taken up by different devotees
as niyama and they stood stubborn in ensuring that
service even if it appeared to cost their life.
