Dear Ganesan,
Thank you for your informative write-up which I find inspiring.
Are there any organisations in Tamil Nadu that collect and safeguard all
Tamil publications (books, CDs, e-books, Internet etc) anywhere in the
world? If there aren't, would you know anyone/organisation who can take up
the suggestion to the State Government to help realise? The reason being a
big budget may be required for the acquisition, organisation to collect,
store and upkeep.

This mammoth project was started by
Pollachi Sri. N. Mahalingam, Chairman, Sakthi group of
companies. Sri NM was telling about this
idea, and he got some Tevaram tirumuRais translated into Hindi.
Also, Tirukkural into Hindi. Will be with for
some days pretty soon. Can check on the status.

Dr. N. Mahalingam, a well-known philanthropist of Tamilnadu, is
interested in keeping the tradition, be it religious or cultural,
alive. His activities are based on this and also propagating the same.
When the
Institute of Asian Studies was considering the idea of translating
Saivaite canonical literature, Dr. N. Mahalingam, who is the Treasurer
on the Board of Governors of the Institute, suggested that the
translation
work could be taken up and we could think of serving our countrymen
also by translating into Hindi as well. This was definitely a new
approach and the Institute readily accepted the suggestion. An
advisory
committee was constituted to go into the details of the translation
project. The committee prepared a rough guideline for the translation
work. Some of them are:
1.There will be an introductory volume that will speak about the
introduction to the socio-cultural milieu of bhakti movement with
particular reference to Saivism and its impact on society.
2.An introductory note at the beginning of each Tirumurai.

One time, some collected money from me also,
for a project with KaanthaLakam, to reprint
the scholarly urai and edition of Tevaram and other
of 12 tirumuRais. Just reprinting Darumapuram
editions done 1960s. Does anyone know
the status of KaanthaLakam, Chennai's project to
reprint Tarumai Atiinam TirumuRai splendid commentaries.
