Dear Kishore/Ganesan

This is one of the real problems that we face now. We
have found some ways out of it. TamilNaudu archives
have some very old books, which they lend for us for
republsihing - if it is more than 60 years or so, they
do not have copyright too.

Infact, Asian publishing has specialised in reprinting
old titles in India. They have a huge collection of
very good old English Titles. They follow a simple
method. They get old copies of the books and scan it.
Then convert it to films and start printing.

I am involved in two such projects with my friend
Prof.R.Rajagopalan of Presidency college,who has
actually initiated it.

There is an author by name Kirubai Sathyanathan Ammal,
who lived in late nineteenth century and had written
two novels by name
1. Saguna
2. Kamala.

Her background is interesting. She is from Tamilnadu
and had written the above novels in English. She is
from one such small commmunity called Brahmin
Christians. Kamala speaks about her mother's
experiences and Saguna speaks about her experiences in
life.

I believe both the novels were so impressive that
British Queen had ordered the Diocesan Press to
translate and publish them other languages.

There is no reference about the translator in the
Tamil books. But there is an introduction by one
Fr.Paul, who praises the novel very much.

We are getting these two books reprinted. It is
completely re-typeset and will be published by my
publisher Mathi Nilayam, very soon.

regards

venkatesh r
