1. "Bill Gates, on his path to billions, has done more for the English
language than any Tamil has for the Tamil language this century"
"Do you agree or disagree? Why? Why not?"
2. While we should acknowledge "academic-run" efforts -- they are
better than nothing. However, since this is the 5th Tamil Internet
Conference, can we do some stock-taking, put denial aside, on what *
really* has been achieved in terms of getting more Tamils to go the
following steps in Tamil?
Step 1. Interacting in Tamil
Step 2. Interaction leads to Trust Building, Reduces Risk
Step 3. Trust Building leads to Cooperation/Business/ Tamil Jobs
How successful have the Tamil Internet Conferences been in achieving
this? Why? Is it because it is run by academics instead of savvy "rich
in common sense", "Tamil Bill-Gates college dropout" types? Should not
these events have "actionable goals" as outcomes? Should not the
"actionable goals" be measured? Even if the actionable goals are very
very tiny. Is it not better to have small goals that are achieved than
discussing and discussing ad nauseaum? How do we move towards this
direction?
Ants without governments, karma or bank accounts to blame, have no
problem with food or shelter. Tamils worry about it all their lives.
Tamils did very very well in the Sangam ages when we did not have
anywhere as much university graduates or professors as we have now.
What does this say? Is it possible that our low status, is not because
of education, that it is because of defeatist mindsets? Mark Twain
said, "Don't let schooling get in the way of your education".
Don' "academic" Tamils have a lot to answer for in perpetuating this
wrong dependent servant mindsets be it unintentionally, negligently or
intentionally so?
