But they certainly would have missed the Trengganu
versions.

Because one of them vanished during the Japanese
occupation 60 years ago.

The other version that I saw, was possessed by
Che Awang, the millionaire Medical Assistant. He also had
a hand written copy. He told me that, the inner regions
of the State of Trengganu formed a separate kingdom which
was rich in culture. The Ramayana version was a vestige
of that kingdom.
The language of the manuscript was Malay/Sanskrit
mixture. The script was Jawi - Arabic.
Even the Indian Studies Dept. of University Malaya
do not know about this.

You see, there are always many things that even
top-notch scholars would miss which very very small frys
like poor humble JayBee happen to come to know.
