Instant chemistry at Hindu event

KUALA LUMPUR - They had barely met five minutes, but the 29-year-old man
and his 26-year-old woman companion were gaily chatting away as if they'd
known each other all their lives at the Malaysia Hindu Sangam's matchmaking
effort dubbed Suyamvaram 2 on Sunday.

''It must be chemistry. I find that I have so much in common with
her,'' said the pharmacist from Perak.

His companion, a systems technician from Seremban, concurred, adding
that she felt ''very comfortable'' with her new-found friend.

Both then agreed that they were not going to look any further and
summoned their mothers to make follow-up arrangements, which may end in
their tying the nuptial knot.

The two were among the 174 women and 68 men who had thronged the event
at the Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple in the hope of finding life partners.

This was the second time the Hindu Sangam was playing Cupid to enable
eligible Hindu bachelors, single women, widows, widowers and divorcees to
find suitable spouses.

Sangam president A. Vaithilingam said the men and women were charged a
registration fee of RM20 (S$9.50) each.

Participants were given numbered tags to pin on their lapels. Sangam
officials would then arrange a meeting between two people if either
expressed an interest in the other.
