Dear Prof Visu and other Friends,

I wish to thank Prof Visu for his efforts in trying to develop the idea of
e-Thamiz Government for Tamils worldwide i.e., the concept of Thirisanku
Thamizakam, that functions through the Internet. The idea is yet to take
full shape and readers ideas are invited to contribute their visions.

Kindly allow me to add some views:

Prof throws this challenging idea:
">Our eventual goal is to capture poltical power in Thamiz Nadu. Not
>perhaps a party but power to direct people as to how they should vote.Let
>us go for character and not for party politics. If we believe >in
>character, we cannot be party-oriented. In our religion, it is always the
>Individual who is superior to even a King. In a nutshell, >we want to
>create a party which will not run for office, but will >direct political
>power. And we propose to do this through an e->government."

While political power may prove to be a valuable tool in designing our
future, we need to consider that Tamils are thinly spread all over the
world, are mostly in the working class and with varying interests in
different geographical locations.

I would suggest a bottom-up approach towards collaboration whereby we
identify our needs, discuss what would be an appropriate vehicle to handle
them, establish common ethics that binds all participants and then
brainstorm, collect data, analysis and design etc thereonwards. In my
experience in dealing with problem solving, I find a widespread tendency
among people to go into solutions too quickly prior to understanding the
issues at hand. Identifying the problem in actionable terms in itself is a
great way to success. To this end, let us bring out all the negatives
relating to our needs, as a first step, in the respective geographical
locations. We would then pick one or two of the most common and significant
needs to work from there. The above may answer Prof's question on "Where do
we start?". Although miracles and quick-wins may be popular expectations,
the reality is hard-work, enthusiasm, ability to support one another. The
most difficult and risky part in any project is at the beginning.

Prof suggested, ">But first let us think of a few things which are part >of
the e-commerce. I myself buy books through the Internet. But I can >think of
music CDs, tapes, books, videos. Even in the US, religion is >the topmost
product in the Internet followed by others. Thamizs are no
>different. So we can go for religion."

Doing e-commerce is a great way to go forward. But before this can happen,
the participants need to be satisfied and be clear as to what is it that can
be done, designed, financed, built and maintained. This is part of the
solutions which may have to wait after we identify our needs.

Prof suggested, "We should target small village temples, churches, >mosques,
vihars. A lot of these temples are in ruins. Let me only >talk about
Hinduism. We need to have field workers. That is people who >are willing to
work as part of ThiriSanku. They will contact the local >temple and have the
temple priests perform a PUJA, An ArchanA, etc. >done in the traditional
way. No changes of any kind from the >traditional format run by the temple."

Madana kamaraaj has responded to the above suggestion by bringing to us
existing sites on this area:

Prof suggested, "We can revive old traditions so that people will join. >For
example, today is AmAvasyA. I would have gladly fed four to six >people today
to their reasonable satisfaction. No consideration of >caste or religion. We
have Saturdays which are almost always good for >feeding the poor. Not that
this cannot be done independently of the >temple, but I get more
satisafction if I do it on a special day after >ArchanA."

Going by what I have mentioned earlier, we need to identify the needs first.
>From what Prof is suggesting, it would appear that the need is to share
information on special days in the Hindu calendar and what we can do
upfront, and then later share information on what we actually did. This
information can be archived for future use. I wish to invite views on this
from readers.

I also .cc'ing to a few more e-groups for wider input. In the event any of
the moderators do not wish to have this thread, kindly inform me.

In the event this mail does not draw active support from readers, then we
will leave it at that. But then, if we do not do anything for ourselves by
ourselves, who will be there to do for us?

You may contribute from any angle: philosophical, economic, managerial,
scientific, day to day needs... anything.

Thank you.

Regards,
Sathia.
