The Siddhas haved termed certain mantrik syllables
as the 'kOdi Mantras'. There are seven of them .
'savaaha', 'hum', 'hum phat', etc., belong to that category.
'hum phat' is the kOdi which is used to dispell evil forces
and energies.
It says that these things have to be learned from
a Master directly.
For your reference, there is a verse praising Murugan:

tharaNi thanil aaRupaththaRu kOti thiirththam un
saravaNaththul adakkam
saaRRum oru elzhu kOdi mandhiranggaL undhan
sataatcharaththuL adakkam
piRavidhanil muppaththu mukkOdi dhEvar un
viitchaNaththuL adakkam
dEavaadhi dEvaalayangaL un aaRupadai
viittinukkuL adakkam
