Dear Sathia
You have asked a question which has no easy answer.
> In Hindu temples, we focus on ourselves or our family only.
This is only partly true.
AFAIK, in almost all the pujas I have observed in several temples
on almost all occasions, the Hindu priests almost always end their
puja with
"lokhA samasthA sukhinO bhavanthu
sarvE janA sukhinO bhavantu",
which encompasses all people in all nations and all animals and birds too.
Some main reasons why Hindus are not united :
1. Ego, Pride
2. Selfishness
3. Arrogance
4. Over-Confidence
5. Greed
6. Jealousy
7. Lack of understanding Islam
8. Lack of understanding Christianity, the missionary conversion activities
9. Utter lack of understanding of lessons learnt from past history
10. Refusal to learn from past history and present realities
